Strong weekend for hsy Racing in Adelaide

The two hsy Racing Audi R8’s were consistent front runners throughout round 1 of the Audi R8 LMS Cup at the Adelaide 500 over the weekend. Piloted by the Koundouris Brothers, James and Theo, the R8’s rarely left the top 5 throughout all sessions across the weekend in the hotly contested class.

Cars first hit the street circuit on Thursday for a series of practice sessions in which James Koundouris was the fastest across all three sessions with Theo following in 5th, 4th and 3rd. Qualifying was on the agenda for Friday and was headlined by the hsy Racing duo taking 2nd and 3rd for Saturday’s race 1. It was the #69 of Theo leading the way over the #44 of James, with Tony Bates taking pole position.

Saturday marked the first race of the weekend for the Audi’s, and also the attendance of a contingient of hsy Adelaide representatives along with Pierburg’s Achim Villmow. Pierburg is a supplier of Electric and Mechanical Water Pumps to hsy, with the two companies sharing advertising space on the bonnets at Adelaide. On the track, Theo and James were able to maintain their qualifying places to finish in 2nd and 4th respectively in race 1.

Race 2 took place on Sunday, where Theo was able to negotiate an action packed race to finish in 4th, while James was unable to avoid the tyre wall after being tapped by Bhurit Bhirombhakdi when coming through turn 4 on lap 8.

hsy Racing next hits the track for round 1 of the Australian GT championship at the Australian Grand Prix on March 23-25.
