hsy Racing will hit the streets of Adelaide this weekend for round 1 of the Audi R8 LMS Cup, with hsy branding gracing the cars of both James and Theo Koundouris. The Melbourne Performance Centre stable of R8’s will race the sole Australian round of this category, which predominately races in Asia, although also features rounds at the famed Nurburgring 24 hour race in Germany. The competition is hot, with approximately 20 of the fastest Audi pilots in the world taking part in the one-make series.
hsy was slated to appear on the #3 car of Ash Samadi, although after his mechanical failure and subsequent injury at the Bathurst 12 hour, Ash was unable to gain a medical clearance and will be unable to compete in Adelaide. We hope to see Ash back on the track soon.
Practice kicks off for the category on Thursday, with the screaming V10’s hitting the circuit at 11:25 for a half an hour session. The weekend culminates in a race each on Saturday and Sunday, with Race 1 taking place at 2:05pm on Saturday and Race 2 at 10:55am on Sunday.
While it’s almost impossible to predict how these races will pan out with such a wide variety of drivers in identical cars, it would be no surprise to see both Koundouris brothers towards the front of the pack. Both drivers have been strong campaigners in the Australian GT category over many years.
